PAULIS POSTAŽS
Exhibition 27.10.18  -  11.11.18
d'Haudrecy Art Gallery
Paulis Postazs - "Friends" - oil on canvas - 60 x 65 cm - d'Haudrecy Art Gallery

‘Friends’ • oil on canvas • 60 x 65 cm

Paulis POSTAZS’s paintings fascinate at once.
Are we amazed by the ordinary subject, the pure lines or the perfect glaze?
Or are we struck by the halo around the faces, reminiscent of the distant Quattrocento?
The dazzling intensity which gives his paintings the glow of the old Masters?
Nevertheless, Postazs’s painting is modern, it seizes the instant and captures it in
a horizon of light over which blows a slight touch of fantasy.

Paulis POSTAZS was born in Jurmala, Latvia in 1976.
In 2000 he graduated in painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in Riga.

•••

CHEN YICHING
"Nihong-ga"
Exhibition 15.09.18  -  30.09.18

‘ Amour’ • Mineral pigments, japanese paper mounted on wood • 153 x 176 cm

Yiching Chen began her initiation into the traditional Japanese painting technique nihonga as a university student.
She was soon convinced that through this remarkable aesthetic discipline she would be able to express
her innermost feelings and share her creative intuition.

Accepted at the prestigious Kyoto City University of Arts in Japan, she studied under the master artist of nihon-ga,
Takao Yamazaki. During this period she was the recipient of many awards and distinctions.
In particular in 2003, she won the prestigious Grand Prize of the Shohaku Museum. Her talent and potential were recognized
by Atsushi Uemura, one of Japan’s great masters of nihon-ga and she was offered the rare opportunity of studying
under his guidance for three months following her Master of Arts degree.
Before leaving Japan for France she had a major personal exhibition in Kyoto at the Nasic Square Gallery.
In 2015 she had a major solo exhibition at Musée des Arts Asiatiques of Toulon (France)

Yiching Chen lives and works in Paris.
Her paintings represent her intimate connection with nature that she expresses
through the delicate and sensitive poetic language of nihonga. She also shares her passion through teaching,
at the Guimet Museum of Asian Arts in Paris.
In 2008 she won the bronze medal for painting at the Salon des Artistes Français, Grand Palais, Paris.
She is the author of the first book in French on the technique of nihon-ga:
“Découvrir la peinture nihon-ga, art traditionnel japonnais”,
published September 2012, Editions Eyrolles.

MYRIAM EYKENS
"When beauty matters"
Exhibition 30.06.18  -  15.07.18

‘A dream’ • bronze 2017 • 45 x 35 x 110 cm

Sculptress Myriam Eykens rather swiftly established a national reputation, thanks to the appetisingly delicacy of her modeled female nudes.
They were foremost created to be cast in plaster. Apparently as a debutante, Eykens never contemplated sales of large editions.
That became rather the fate of her very popular, multicoloured petites têtes: heads of children, women and a sparse cardinal.
Modeled in clay, terracotta proved to be the ideal material for these small heads. Soon though, her female nudes were cast in that
most adamantine of man made materials: bronze. In proper mechanical execution they were, and still are, subtly controlled by the artist.
To this day, Eykens is joyfully experimenting with the attenuated sweep of the nude body, in different postures and in various positions
of the legs – amounting to something no less than an attempt to a rerenaissance of Beauty in contemporary art.

na te streven, wél volle en liefst tijdloze vrijheid. Uiteraard volgde ze in haar vormingsjaren ooit de lessen met vrucht;

« Wang Gang was born in 1964 in Jinan, Shandong province in China.
He graduated in 1985 from the Fine Arts University of Xi’an.
His roots and memories are the leading thread in his work.
Wang Gang’s world is stamped with wonderful anachronism and a feeling of timelessness.
His painting is the reflection of our selective memory where recollections, faces and landscapes
melt together to create a complete work where the confusion of memories makes way for dreams.
The discovery of this strange universe confronts the world of dreams and meditation. »

Exhibition 01.07.17  -  16.07.17

‘Oratio’ • bronze • 270 x 110 x 80 cm

« Emanuele De Reggi’s imposing bronze statues have the Olympian impassibility of pudicity.
Before offering themselves to our sight, they urge us to listen to their secret histories.
Their nature, as the Physiologist would say, becomes cold and solid by the incandescent alchemy
of a casting that, in the blue-green sparkle of its oxidation, renders their surfaces pellucid
and rippled, smooth and rough, all at one and the same time. »

Numa Droz - Plage isolée - oil on wood

‘Plage isolée’ • oil on wood • 32 x 24 cm

Capes d’ Arts Plastiques
