Solo Exhibition
21 aug. - 20 sept. 2009
Laima Eglite , one of the most versatile artists of her generation, alongside painting is also working in book graphic art and animation. Eglite trained as a professional artist at Janis Rozentäls Riga Secondary Art School and Department of Painting of the Latvian Acamdemy of Art.
Duality, formally ranging from use of lacal spectre hues to nuanced subtlety of half-tones, from a bold brushstroke to a pointillistic pulse, is typical of Laima Eglite's painting, resulting in compositions that are, at times, static and serene and, at other times, powerfully expressive.
Laima Eglite's solo exhibition at the White Hall of Latvian National Museum of Art offers a retrospective overview of the artist's work, spanning almost thirty (1971-2009) years of her creative career.

Some
words of the artist :
Nothing
has to stand out. Sense, colour, composition, inner energy in
action, all in ideal proportion. Image is my language.
It contains all the necessary information. If I need words they
appear in my pictures. What is significant in life, in art ?
In life it is love; in art it is the inner energy in action.
I am fascinated by theatre. Therefore I play
my paintings. Every picture reveals real persons in real situations,
and I am the producer. When I meet those persons in real
life, I am shy
There are paintings that are born
ready in my mind. There exist ideas which I cant grab
at once, those are developed on paper. There are works which
just pop out. Time will decide what has been worthy, what has
been a mistake. Life is a row of occasions. So are my
pictures. But everybody has the right to see things differently. The
author and his work is one combination of perception, the spectator
and the piece of art, the author and the spectator other perception
